Argentina is the second largest country in South America, after Brazil, but almost 50% of the land is covered in 'pampas', fertile lowland grasslands often called 'plains'. Similar to Chile, it expands from Southern Sub-Antarctica territory home to the most Southern city in the world, Ushuaia, all the way to the Northern deserts and canyons of Salta and Jujuy.

So get ready for some long, sometimes
monotonous journeys to get from one city to the next! And our top tip? If you're short on time, stick to the mountainous parts of Western Argentina. Eastern Argentina is home to a largely uneventful rocky, cliff-face coastline only worth visiting for whale watching in Puerto Madryn and of course, Buenos Aires.
